How to Reconcile Greener Grass Syndrome

We all know about greener grass syndrome.

Let’s take it a step further.

We admire anther person’s life and we strive to get there and when we do, it’s nice for a while, but eventually, we get used to it and seek greener pastures.

Classic example is the farmer in Idaho, farming for years, wishing he could travel the world.

Then the camera frame switches to the face of traveler, traveling the world for years, wishing he could set down roots by having a farm in Idaho.

It’s a funny thing when two people envy what the other’s got and what happens n the process is what they currently have gets destroyed. Destroyed in that it’s not appreciated.

There’s a lot to untangle here in this issue so let’s get down to the question that everybody will eventually ask.

If everybody eventually gets used to whatever their greener grass is, which they do, then the question is – why bother?

Why bother striving to get there if you’re just going to get used to it?

It’s an interesting question.

Here are 2 answers.

One, don’t go. (more on this later).

Two, yes you accept the fact that you will eventually get used to your greener grass, but until you do, you have something called EXPERIENCE.

You lose out on all that when you choose not to go for the greener grass.

Here’s how to get the best of both worlds.

Yes, we set the goal to get to the greener grass and we usually do, and along the way, when we arrive at these greener types of grasses, we accumulate experience.

Those different types of experiences prove to be a FILTERING PROCESS.

We find elements we like in each “grass” and ones we don’t like and we slowly start to form our own “hybrid grass” as a result.

In other words, we discover what we like, what we don’t like until we find our “structure” for the grass. Once we get there, the greener grass syndrome doesn’t affect us as much because we’re so experienced.

When you get to that point – what do you do? What do you do when you no longer want to go for the greener grass?

That’s when you start working on making your own hybrid grass greener.

And that’s when you become free of the greener grass syndrome.
