Why It’s Important to Experience New Things

By: Brian Kim - August 22, 2010

If you're a first time visitor, I highly encourage you to click here to learn more about this site to see how it can TRULY change your life like no other site can and how millions around the world are already benefiting and getting the VERY BEST VALUE out of it! Thank you for visiting!

Before I delve into the practical reasons, let’s just stop here and think.

There is SO much to experience on this earth.

SO FREAKING MUCH.

Our minds cannot comprehend all the possibilities but yet, we think we can.

That’s only because we’ve been going through the same motions day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year.

We are blinded by our routines and habits.

Our vision of what there is to do is limited.

How many dances are there out there to try? How many games to play? How many different types of foods to eat? Books to read? Different types of meditation to practice? Sports to play? Exercises to try? Drinks to taste? Movies to watch? Cities to visit? Beaches to swim in? Museums to marvel at?

The list goes on and on and on and on.

Rather than start to list the practical, logical reasons why it’s important to experience new things, let’s just honor the abundance and variety life on this earth has to offer.

Let us soak it all in.

Let us take the time to really see what’s out there and revel in the novelty of it all.

That alone is enough motivation for people to start experiencing all life has to offer. Now for the practical reasons.

When we get caught up in routine, our brain doesn’t have to “work” as much. Its seen it all.

The same commute, people, workspace, co-workers, restaurants, streets, etc. Because its seen it all, it doesn’t have to work as much. Everything is familiar.

Now turn it all upside down. Go somewhere you’ve never been before and meet people you’ve never met before and do things you’ve never done before and eat and drink things you’ve never tasted before.

What does your brain have to do? It’s a wake up call. It starts using things its never used before, trying to process all this new information in order to make sense of it.

So just for exercise of your mental faculties, experiencing new things in that respect is important because it keeps your mind in shape. It keeps it on its toes. It’s forced to work to make sense of an unfamiliar environment. Its attention to detail rises as it takes in all the scenery. Its database is added to with all this new information. Its perceptive capabilities are working to make sense of everything that’s going on in this new environment.

Now, when it’s done all that, here’s the great thing.

Your mind starts mixing all the information, old and new, and as a result, it creates combinations, the essence of creativity.

If you read about the people who had great ideas, this is how they do it. They work out their mind by exposing it to new places, ideas, information, and the mind takes all that and plays with it and starts spitting out these combinations that for some, result in huge fortunes.

So who knows?

The brilliant idea you’ve been seeking for may lie in a new adventure you take.

The reason why some people haven’t had any great ideas is that they don’t do anything new. They’re working with the same material and there’s only so much you can do with the same old material. Throw in some new material and see what your mind can do with it.

Another important reason why it’s important to experience new things is that it helps you to become open to trying new things, to getting out of your comfort zone, to training your “response to disappointment” muscles.

You go to a restaurant.

Forget ordering the chicken.

Try the snail.

Get out of your comfort zone. Yeah, after you taste it, you might not like it but at least you tried it. Wasn’t as bad as you thought it was going to be.

This helps you become more liberal in terms of being open to doing new things rather than stick to the same old routine and this can do wonders for all aspects of your life, from your relationship to your spouse, work, family, friends, health, etc.

And let’s face it, at the end of the day, doing all this is pretty fun isn’t it?

You don’t know quite what to expect. It’s all a surprise. You never know what the day will hold.

There’s more to life than the 9-5, TV, eat, sleep, rinse and repeat.

Get out there.

Be spontaneous. Don’t “to do” list your experience of new things.

Just walk or drive around.

Whatever catches your eye is fine.

You start doing this - you’ll begin to feel that spark in you that you thought you lost forever.

That spark that was o so familiar.

The spark that can be found in every single last child.
